Chase Horton Receives HIMSS Scholarship in Healthcare Technology
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville master's in healthcare informatics candidate Chase Horton has received the 2023-2024 Midwest Gateway Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Chapter Scholarship. The Midwest Gateway Chapter of HIMSS is an organization of regional healthcare technology professionals. The Chapter awarded Horton a scholarship in the amount of $5,000.
“Without the networking and mentoring from my SIUE faculty, I would not have accomplished what I have,” said Horton, who received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SIUE in 2019. “With these additional funds I will complete my education and strive to become a top leader in the dynamic world of healthcare technology and informatics.”
"The Master of Science in Healthcare Informatics (MSHI) program prepares students to be innovative leaders in health informatics with the ability to use technology and manage information to achieve industry objectives and improve outcomes,” said Frank Lyerla, PhD, RN, CAHIMS, FHIMSS, professor and director of the MSHI program. "Mr. Horton has been a model student in the program earning a 4.0 GPA. I was more than willing to write a letter of recommendation and excited to hear of his award."
Horton is also a 2023 recipient of the National Health Information Scholarship from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Foundation.
“I am forever grateful for the experiences, connections, and relationships built through SIUE and their association with incredible organizations such as HIMSS,” said Horton. “I have to thank HIMSS directly for their recognition of my perseverance and belief in my potential.
